KYIV – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the command post of the 59th Separate Assault Brigade of Unmanned Systems, named after Yakiv Handziuk, where he received a briefing on the current battlefield situation and the brigade’s technological advancements.

Brigade Commander Bohdan Shevchuk updated operations within their area of responsibility, detailing collaboration with neighboring units. President Zelenskyy was also briefed on the brigade’s use of unmanned systems, electronic warfare equipment, and robotic complexes—critical assets in Ukraine’s ongoing defense efforts. The brigade has developed its own production capabilities for these systems and continues to implement cutting-edge military technology.

During the visit, the President personally awarded soldiers with the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, II and III classes, recognizing their bravery and commitment to the nation’s defense. He also ensured that additional awards were passed on to other servicemembers of the brigade.

“Thank you for this opportunity to award you personally, to thank you on behalf of Ukraine, on behalf of all Ukrainians,” Zelenskyy said. “Thank you for defending our state – for standing firm and strong. We wish health to your families and loved ones – this is very important – to all of you. We wish you victory. Thank you for your service.”

In discussions with unit commanders, the President addressed critical military needs, including the recruitment and training of new drone pilots. Commanders also shared their perspectives on the security guarantees Ukraine requires and highlighted the necessity for specific types of weapons and equipment to enhance operational effectiveness.

Zelenskyy’s visit underscores Ukraine’s commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities and supporting the troops on the frontlines of the ongoing war.
