Guaranteeing the States Protection Against Invasion

WASHINGTON, D.C.— President Trump today signed an Executive Order aimed at addressing what he described as an "invasion" of illegal aliens entering the United States through the southern border. The order invokes Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees federal protection for states against invasion, as well as presidential authority under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

A Constitutional Promise to Protect States
In joining the Union, the states agreed to surrender elements of their sovereignty in exchange for federal protection against foreign threats. This promise is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. States such as Texas, faced with millions of illegal crossings and associated economic burdens, have repeatedly requested federal intervention during prior administrations. Critics argue these requests were unmet, resulting in significant strain on local governments and communities.

President Trump’s Executive Order seeks to fulfill that constitutional promise by directing federal agencies to take immediate and decisive action to secure the border and prevent further illegal entries.

Clear Instructions to Repel and Repatriate
The Executive Order explicitly directs the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Department of State to employ all available measures to immediately repel, repatriate, and remove individuals crossing the border illegally. Further, it restricts the availability of legal mechanisms, such as asylum claims, to individuals involved in illegal crossings deemed to constitute an invasion.

“This is not just about sovereignty. It is about public safety, economic security, and the rule of law,” a senior administration official stated, echoing the President’s long-held stance on the issue.

Promises Kept: A Campaign Commitment Fulfilled
This move marks a key milestone in President Trump’s 2024 campaign promise to "seal the border on Day 1." The administration cites this effort as part of a broader strategy to secure the nation’s borders and ensure resources are preserved for lawful citizens and immigrants.

The President’s statement highlighted the broader impacts of illegal immigration on the nation, from economic strain to public safety risks. “Illegal immigration affects the lives of all Americans," President Trump said. "It undermines public safety, places burdens on taxpayers, and diverts resources from the most vulnerable Americans.”

The Executive Order serves as a bold step in addressing what the administration identifies as a national crisis, underscoring its commitment to fulfilling a constitutional mandate and reaffirming the nation's borders as a priority for federal governance.
