President Zelenskyy Urges UK to Lift Weapons Restrictions

LONDON – In a historic address to the UK Government, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the lifting of restrictions on the use of Western weapons against Russian forces. Zelenskyy argued that such a move would prevent any potential expansion of the war by Russia and enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Once we can strike farther than just near the border, including Russian military airfields, we will not only protect ourselves from any Russian offensives, but also secure our front line positions and cities from Russian bombs," President Zelenskyy stated. Emphasizing the dire situation, Zelenskyy highlighted that Russia deploys approximately 3,500 guided aerial bombs against Ukraine each month.
He pointed out the challenge of intercepting these bombs but stressed that destroying their carriers is feasible, and I ask you to show your leadership in this, and please – convince other partners to remove the limits. We need this step – a step that will force Russia to seek peace, he urged the UK Government.
This address marks a significant event as President Zelenskyy becomes the first foreign leader in 27 years to speak to the UK Government, the last being US President Bill Clinton in 1997. Additionally, Zelenskyy’s visit holds further historical importance as he is the first official visitor to the Prime Minister's residence on Downing Street since Keir Starmer assumed office as the UK Prime Minister.
The Ukrainian President’s appeal underscores the urgency and gravity of the ongoing conflict, seeking to galvanize international support and solidarity in the face of escalating aggression from Russia.
