Switzerland - In a landmark development at the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, Ukraine and Palau have formally established diplomatic relations. The historic agreement was cemented by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the Republic of Palau Surangel Whipps, Jr. The ceremonial signing took place with the presence of Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, and Palau's Minister of State, Gustav Aitaro. The two ministers signed a Joint Communiqué, symbolizing the beginning of official diplomatic ties between the two nations.

This meeting marked the first high-level interaction between the leaders of Ukraine and Palau. President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to President Whipps for Palau's support of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Zelenskyy also extended an invitation to Palau to participate in the "Environmental Security" segment of Ukraine’s Peace Formula. It is very important that you found the opportunity to come to the Peace Summit. Thank you for your clear position. The issues discussed at the Summit are important not only for Europe but also for the whole world,” President Zelenskyy remarked. During the meeting, Zelenskyy highlighted the environmental threats posed by the Russian occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). He expressed grave concerns about the storage of weapons and explosives by Russian forces on the plant's premises, and the coercion of Ukrainian personnel to continue working under these dangerous conditions. Furthermore, President Zelenskyy emphasized the necessity of global cooperation to support the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, an initiative aimed at addressing the humanitarian impacts of the ongoing conflict. The establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Palau signifies a notable step towards broader international collaboration and underscores the global relevance of the issues addressed at the summit. The new diplomatic ties are expected to foster mutual support and cooperation between the two countries on various international platforms.
