President Biden New Nominates

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate key individuals to serve in significant positions within his administration:

  • Julie Smith, to be Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs

  • Kin Moy, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

  • James Story, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Mozambique

  • Mark G. Eskenazi, to be a Member of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission

        Julie Smith: Nominee for Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs

    Julie Smith currently serves as the United States Permanent Representative to NATO, holding the rank and status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. With an extensive career in foreign policy, she has held various senior positions, including Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State and Director of the Asia and Geopolitics Programs at the German Marshall Fund. Smith's experience spans roles in the Obama administration and the Pentagon, where she focused on European and NATO policy. Recognized for her exemplary service, she has received numerous awards, including the Sue M. Cobbs Award for Exemplary Diplomatic Service. Smith, a Michigan native, holds degrees from Xavier University and American University and speaks German and French.

          Kin Moy: Nominee for Ambassador to Vietnam

    Kin Moy, a distinguished career member of the Senior Foreign Service, is set to be the Ambassador to Vietnam. Moy's career includes significant roles such as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs and Chief of Mission of the American Institute in Taiwan. His vast experience in East Asian affairs is complemented by his service in the U.S. Embassies in Beijing and Seoul. Moy has been honored with the Presidential Rank Award and holds degrees from the University of Minnesota and Columbia University. He is proficient in Mandarin and Cantonese.

    James Story: Nominee for Ambassador to Mozambique

     James Story, a seasoned diplomat with the rank of Minister-Counselor, has been nominated as Ambassador to Mozambique. Story previously served as the U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela and held various roles in embassies across Latin America and Africa. His notable achievements include receiving the Presidential Rank Award and the Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service Award. Story's academic background includes degrees from the University of South Carolina and Georgetown University. Originally from Moncks Corner, South Carolina, he is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

Mark G. Eskenazi: Nominee for the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission

    Mark G. Eskenazi is nominated to join the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. With a robust background in labor and employment law, Eskenazi currently serves as Assistant General Counsel at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. His career includes significant roles at the National Labor Relations Board and contributions to international economic policies at the White House. Eskenazi holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.S. from Cornell University. Originally from New York, he resides in Arlington, Virginia, with his family.President Biden's nominations reflect a commitment to seasoned expertise and dedicated public service, aiming to strengthen U.S. diplomatic and domestic capacities. These appointments await Senate confirmation.
