President Biden Announces New Appointments to Key Roles

WASHINGTON – Today, President Biden announced his intent to appoint several distinguished individuals to serve in key roles within his administration. These appointments include positions on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, the Board of Visitors to the Coast Guard Academy, and the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts.

President’s Intelligence Advisory Board

The President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, an independent element within the Executive Office of the President, assists the President by providing an independent source of advice on the effectiveness of the Intelligence Community. President Biden has appointed Jane Harman as a member of this board.

Jane Harman: A former U.S. Representative for California’s 36th congressional district, Harman served nine terms in Congress and was a ranking member of the Intelligence Committee post-9/11. After leaving the House in 2011, she became the first woman President and CEO of the Wilson Center, transitioning to President Emerita in 2021. Harman currently chairs the Commission on the National Defense Strategy and co-chairs the board of Freedom House.

Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico

The Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico was created under the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act of 2016. President Biden has appointed Arthur J. Gonzalez, Betty A. Rosa, and Luis Ubiñas as members of this board.

Arthur J. Gonzalez: Judge Gonzalez has an extensive legal career, including serving as a Judge in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. He has presided over high-profile cases like Enron and Chrysler and currently serves as a Senior Fellow at NYU School of Law.

Betty A. Rosa: Dr. Rosa is the Commissioner of Education and President of the University of New York, overseeing a vast educational system. She has over 30 years of instructional and administrative experience and has been a pivotal figure in educational leadership and policy.

Luis Ubiñas: Ubiñas has a multifaceted career across business, government, and non-profits. He is the current Chair of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation and has served on numerous influential boards and committees, including the Export-Import Bank and the International Trade Commission.

United States Commission on International Religious Freedom

The USCIRF is an independent, bipartisan U.S. federal government commission that monitors and promotes religious freedom globally. President Biden has appointed Dr. Mohamed Elsanousi as a Commissioner.

Mohamed Elsanousi: Dr. Elsanousi is the Executive Director of the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers and has played a key role in interfaith and government relations. He was instrumental in developing the Marrakech Declaration, advocating for religious freedom in Muslim-majority communities.

Board of Visitors to the Coast Guard Academy

This board reviews and makes recommendations on the operation of the Coast Guard Academy. President Biden has appointed Peter Joseph Marshall Bober as a member.

Peter Joseph Marshall Bober: The former Mayor of Hollywood, Florida, Bober has extensive experience in public service and legal practice. He has overseen significant municipal projects and served on various committees focused on public safety and development.

President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts

The PACA supports the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and acts as “Ambassadors for the Arts.” President Biden has appointed Judith Barnett and Sheldon Pang as members.

Judith Barnett: Barnett is the President of The Barnett Group and has a distinguished career in law, government service, and international trade. She has played a significant role in advocating for U.S. companies and developing regional projects in the Middle East and Africa.

Sheldon Pang: Pang is a leader in international trade, finance, and emission reduction. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of Freepoint Commodities LLC and has been a strong supporter of educational causes. He has held various prominent positions in the financial sector and served on the White House Commission for Presidential Scholars.

These appointments reflect President Biden’s commitment to bringing experienced and diverse leaders into key advisory roles within his administration.
