Washington, DC - In a significant legislative milestone, President Biden signed into law S. 2051, the “Missing Children’s Assistance Reauthorization Act of 2023,” on Monday. This crucial act reauthorizes and amends the Missing Children’s Assistance Act, ensuring the continued support and enhancement of programs dedicated to the welfare of missing and exploited children.

The reauthorization includes a substantial financial commitment, authorizing $49.3 million annually for each fiscal year from 2024 through 2028. These funds will be allocated to various initiatives aimed at locating and protecting missing children, as well as preventing child exploitation. The successful passage of this bill was largely due to the bipartisan efforts of Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC), along with Representatives Jennifer Bean (D-VA), Joe Courtney (D-CT), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), and Bobby Scott (D-VA). Their collective leadership and dedication have been pivotal in addressing this critical issue and ensuring the safety and well-being of children across the nation. In a statement, President Biden expressed gratitude for the lawmakers' commitment, emphasizing the importance of the legislation in safeguarding vulnerable children. "This act represents a vital step in our ongoing efforts to protect our children and ensure they are safe from harm. I commend the bipartisan leadership that made this possible." The “Missing Children’s Assistance Reauthorization Act of 2023” will provide much-needed resources to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and other related programs, reinforcing the nation's commitment to combating child abduction and exploitation.
