Kivi, Ukraine - In a crucial step towards bolstering international alliances, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak. The discussions, held ahead of the highly anticipated Global Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 15-16, were pivotal in cementing defense strategies and international cooperation.
The primary focus of the call was the preparation for the upcoming Summit. President Zelenskyy expressed confidence in the United Kingdom’s participation despite the looming pre-election period. "I am sure that even in the midst of the pre-election period, the United Kingdom will be represented at the Summit at the highest level," Zelenskyy stated, underscoring the importance of the UK's presence in fostering global peace initiatives.
The leaders also delved into ongoing defense collaborations between Ukraine and the UK. They prioritized the enhancement of air defense systems and the extension of long-range military capabilities. Zelenskyy acknowledged the UK's authorization for Ukraine to target military objectives within Russian territory, highlighting this strategic move as a deterrent to further aggression by Russian forces.
